For decades, our City Charter has protected residents’ right to vote on major decisions that shape our community, our neighborhoods, and our quality of life.
This November, voters will be asked to remove the charter amendments that safeguard our beach and to give the City Commission the authority to give away public land and allow high‑rises on the barrier island.
No matter where you live in Deerfield Beach, eliminating these protections will diminish our city ’s unique character, increase traffic, and reduce the quality of life for everyone — except those who will own the newly built penthouses.

City Charter Workshop

The City of Deerfield Beach will hold its August 4 Commission Meeting, where the City Commission is scheduled to cast the final vote on proposed Charter amendments affecting Beach Development (Article XI) before deciding whether to place them on the November ballot.
During the meeting, Commissioners will consider proposed amendments that would remove existing Charter protections requiring voter approval for certain major development decisions on the barrier island. If approved, these Charter amendment questions will appear on the November ballot, asking voters whether to transfer those decision-making powers from the residents of Deerfield Beach to the City Commission.
